Out of the Woods is collection of initiatives and projects where Hen of the Woods partners with leaders and non profit organizations, locally, regionally and nationally.
Since we started making snack foods, we’ve always strived to find ways to donate our products to local events and organizations. But this year, we’re taking things a bit more seriously! Kicking off a partnership with Cincinnati Children’s to donate 50% of all profits of products sold through our website to cancer research throughout the month of February, we are now looking for additional organizations to partner with in fun and creative ways that make an impact.
If you or your organization have something in mind, please reach out to us via our Contact Us page. We are seeking organizations that focus on mental health, overall wellness and combating food insecurity.
climate change and sustainability
After transitioning all of our branded Hen of the Woods grocery store displays and cases to 100% post consumer recycled material and beginning to purchase all of our boxes from an Ohio-based company to reduce transportation emissions, we are now working with our partners to develop an improved chip bag that is either made from post consumer recycled packaging or is compostable. Setting large goals like this for a small company is high bar but we’re up to the challenge and want to deliver.
Additionally, we’ve partnered with One Tree Planted, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to global reforestation by planting trees to restore nature and biodiversity. By raising awareness about the importance of trees, One Tree Planted motivates younger generations to do something positive for the environment while offering businesses like ours simple sustainability solutions. At Hen of the Woods, this means for every order placed on henothewoods.com, we will plant one tree; customers may also donate directly when checking out to plant their own trees.
We look forward to expanding our commitments to the planet with more environmentally-minded partnerships in 2022 and beyond.
food entrepreneurship support
Before starting Hen of the Woods, our passion as chefs was developing recipes, sourcing ingredients and providing memorable experiences to anyone who walked through the doors of our restaurants. We never planned our escape, we never thought about what was next, we never thought about anything other than executing a great service with our amazing teams in both the kitchen and the front of house.
Building a snack food company opened our eyes to what we were capable of; it taught us how to utilize the skills we developed in the kitchen to create a unique consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand. What we lacked in capital, CPG experience and industry connections we made up for with persistence, great products and knowing that there has to be a better way. Finding mentors, getting advice and learning the ropes was an ongoing challenge and now with more than eight years behind us, we want to help food entrepreneurs however we can. Whether it’s a chef looking to launch a product from their restaurant into the grocery market or anyone with an interesting product, we want to be a resource.
If this describes you and you’re on the hunt for guidance, please reach out—we’d be happy to help you get Out of the Woods and into the market!
